Q1 2026 intelligence

When headlines dominate price discovery.

A condensed view of Priori's Q1 2026 macro regime assessment and investment outlook. Figures referenced are as at 31 March 2026.

Market outlook

Markets normally synthesise macroeconomic, geopolitical, and corporate variables into price. During Q1 2026, geopolitical risk and the energy supply shock became unusually dominant, temporarily overwhelming otherwise resilient economic and corporate fundamentals.

A fundamentals-only lens

Priori's Macro Regime Impact Matrix assesses rates, inflation, employment, growth, and credit stress, then maps those trends to major asset classes. The framework deliberately excludes earnings, valuation and geopolitical factors to isolate the underlying macro impulse.

The Q1 framework produced a positive relative bias for equities and metals and a negative bias for the US dollar. The gap between those signals and observed quarterly price action suggested that non-fundamental forces had created temporary dislocations.

The objective is not to predict every headline. It is to identify when price has moved materially away from the underlying evidence.

Diminishing market reactivity

Repeated shocks can change behaviour. Priori's work observed that market responses to successive geopolitical events appeared to diminish as investors increasingly learned to expect disruption. Strong corporate earnings and the long-term AI investment cycle also placed a fundamental floor beneath parts of the market.

Implications for portfolio management

Why active judgement matters

Priori is not required to purchase securities because index rules demand it. Capital can be withheld when valuation is stretched and deployed selectively when deep research identifies an attractive asymmetry. This flexibility is central to the fund's approach.
